Born into almost no money, his parents struggled to put food on the table – in fact, his father had to work multiple jobs in order to provide for his two children and wife. 

Even though his upbringing was anything but easy, Neymar has admitted that his family has always been incredibly close. 

In fact, Neymar Senior first introduced the young star to the sport of football when playing around in the street of his childhood home.

His Futsal Background

The family never owned a television, meaning that everything he learned about football came from his father and hours of practice.

Santos is one of the biggest clubs in the Brazilian footballing league. In fact, major names, such as Pele, Agustin Cejas, and Carlos Calvan, have had spells at this iconic club.

Between 2009 and 2013, the Brazilian made a total of 177 appearances for the team. More so, he managed to score 107 goals during this time.

So, it was no surprise when young Neymar decided to pursue his career by playing for this Spanish giant. This meant he would be playing in one of the best leagues in the world.

After more than 4 years in LaLiga, Neymar signed a contract with French giants PSG. As if the transfer wasn’t big enough, it also made history by being the most expensive deal in footballing history. 

In total, Paris Saint-Germain spent 222 million Euros to sign the striker – to put this in perspective, the player cost a whopping 80 million more than the second most expensive player.

Neymar has made a total of 63 appearances for the club since signing in 2017.

And lastly, the Brazilian striker has won a total of three Ligue 1 campaigns. However, this number is expected to increase before the end of his career. 

The Olympics

Neymar has also featured in two Olympic Game Campaigns for Brazil. During the 2012 London Olympics, he helped his team reach the final – however, they walked away with the silver medal.
